He Xiang is the practice of bringing aromatic materials together in a blend. In bead form, finely ground botanicals are combined, shaped and dried into a piece that can be threaded and worn.

These are not wooden beads sprayed with perfume. Their intended fragrance comes from the materials within. The particular scent, texture and care requirements depend on the actual formula.

What are He Xiang herbal incense beads?

He Xiang beads are wearable beads made from a blend of ground botanical incense ingredients. They bring the texture and natural aroma of the materials into a piece of jewelry. They are intended to be worn, not burned, and offer a different sensory experience from crystal-only jewelry.

What does “He Xiang” mean, and where does the idea come from?

He Xiang (合香) refers to the blending of incense materials. Our beads draw on the Chinese tradition of combining aromatic ingredients into a balanced blend. We interpret that approach through contemporary jewelry, bringing an appreciation of scent and handcraft into everyday wear.

Are QI CHARM’s herbal incense beads natural?

Our herbal incense beads are made from ground natural botanical ingredients without added artificial fragrance. This describes the herbal beads, not every component of a finished piece: crystals, thread, and any metal findings are listed separately in the product details. Natural ingredients may still cause sensitivities, so please check any ingredient you need to avoid.

Why do your herbal incense beads have a more muted color palette?

We do not add dyes or pigments to our herbal incense beads. Their colors come from the botanical ingredients themselves. We also use nanmu wood powder as a natural binder; its own brown tones blend with those of the other ingredients, creating softer, earthier shades. Rather than adding color for a brighter finish, we let the materials determine each bead’s appearance. Slight differences in shade between batches are part of that natural variation.

How are the beads made?

Botanical ingredients are ground, blended, formed into beads by hand, and allowed to dry before being selected for jewelry. Small differences in their surface, shade, and shape reflect the materials and hand-forming process. The exact blend varies by design; check the product information for details.

Do all your herbal beads use the same formula?

No single scent description should be assumed to apply to every design. Please refer to the ingredients and scent information provided for the piece you are considering. If you have a known ingredient sensitivity and the information is not detailed enough, contact us before ordering rather than relying on a blend name alone.

How strong is the scent?

Expect a subtle botanical scent that is usually most noticeable close to the beads. Herbal incense beads are not designed to fragrance a room like a diffuser. How long does the scent last? Can I refresh it?

The aroma gradually changes and softens with time. There is no single duration that applies to every blend or wearer. Keep the beads dry and away from strong fragrances, and do not add perfume or essential oil to intensify the scent; doing so may change both the original aroma and the surface of the beads.

Will the beads shed powder, transfer color, or crack?

Ground botanical materials can have a fine, textured surface. Friction, moisture, impact, and storage conditions may affect their appearance or integrity; take particular care around pale fabrics if the beads become damp. Persistent shedding, substantial color transfer, or cracking should not simply be accepted as a handmade characteristic. Stop wearing the piece and contact us with clear photographs if this happens.
